Cadence teams up with ADI to develop the SHARC-FX automotive audio processor, combining AI and DSP on a single 16nm chip

Cadence (Nasdaq: CDNS) and Analog Devices (ADI) announced a partnership to develop an automotive audio signal processor in the SHARC family, combining Cadence's Tensilica DSP architecture with ADI's new ADSP generation to elevate sound, voice control, and infotainment for software-defined vehicles (SDV).

The ADSP-SC84x/2184x platform builds on the ADSP-SC59x/2159x family, moving from 28nm to 16nm fabrication, improving power efficiency and supporting higher clock speeds. At its core is the SHARC-FX, co-developed with Cadence, supporting VLIW SIMD and an instruction set for modern signal and AI workloads. It also adds LPDDR4, more on-chip L2 memory, a Hardware Security Module, and 2 additional connectivity cores to support Linux.

Workloads offloaded to the SHARC-FX include Personal Sound Zones, real-time music source separation and vocal removal, the AVAS alert system, AI-based road noise and engine order cancellation, voice assistants, and Generative AI, supporting the Google LiteRT framework and Cadence's IP, certified to ISO 26262 ASIL-B.
